Balmoral Billie: The Story Behind Billie Eilish’s “Regal” British Vogue Cover

As the youngest musician ever to headline both Coachella and Glastonbury, BillieEilish clearly has magic in her bones.

Photographer Johnny Dufort, who shot her in California for the May 2025 issue of BritishVogue, describes the 23-year-old songwriter as “regal”, and it’s true that on the first of her two May covers, replete with a Chanel headscarf, button up Martine Rose jacket and steely blue-eyed gaze, she is radiating Balmoral-worthy levels of poise and grace.

British Vogue has been published since autumn 1916.

Its current editor stated that, “Vogue’s power is universally acknowledged. It’s the place everybody wants to be if they want to be in the world of fashion" and 85% of the magazine’s readers agree that “Vogue is the Fashion Bible”.

The magazine is considered to be one that links fashion to high society and class, teaching its readers how to ‘assume a distinctively chic and modern appearance’.

As a branch-off of American Vogue, British Vogue is a magazine whose success is based upon its advertising rather than its sales revenue.
